Local Grants

The MEPI local grants program directly supports organizations at the grassroots or community level that are advancing democratic change and strengthening civic institutions.  The program establishes partnerships with a wide range of local civil society groups, including NGOs and universities, as they undertake reform projects and play an increasingly vital role in expanding political participation in their countries. For more information on applying and receiving funding for a local grants project, you can check the Guidebook for Local Grants Applicants and the Guidebook for Local Grants Recipients.

Grant amounts will usually range between $25,000 and $75,000, but individuals and organizations applying for these grants are encouraged to write their budgets to actual costs.  The period of the grant ranges from 3 months to two years.  All applicants should apply directly to the U.S. Embassy located in their country, copying the MEPI Regional Office at ABUDHABIMEPI@state.gov.  Below is a list of email addresses of the U.S. embassy located in the applicants' respective countries.  Applications are accepted in English and Arabic.
