Modern Youth Society Press Release: Inauguration of an Awareness Project in Shabwa to Empower and Reinforce the Role of Woman
The Modern Youth Society has inaugurated an awareness project in Shabwa governorate that aims to empower and reinforce the role of woman in terms of political, social and developmental aspects. This is with assistance from the Small Grants Program affiliated with the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
Dr. Ishraq Rabi` Al-Siba`i, President of the Modern Youth Society in the governorate, stated the foregoing, explaining that this comes about within the framework of the activities of the Society which aim to enhance the role of woman and to buttress her social and political standing, and to impel her to contribute to pushing forward the process of comprehensive development.
She said that the Society has a plan for implementing this project through carrying out field campaigns to create awareness among women in the governorates of Shabwa, Ma`arib and Abyan, and organizing lectures and lessons that aim to augment their capabilities and acquaint them with their political and social rights, and to urge them to perform the tasks assigned to them in terms of developing their small communities through leadership training courses, and to impart to them knowledge about the role of their local councils, and the method of connecting the local councils with the public; moreover, to enhance the role of the local councils (as a central tool on the path of development and providing projects and services), in addition to creating a mechanism for communication and networking between those women and local councils in their areas with a view to attaining a real and effective partnership which would foster development.
Dr. Ishraq Al-Siba`i emphasized that her Society has begun to implement the first steps of this project represented in undertaking coordination with female public figures in the three governorates as a prelude to forming an efficacious women’s coalition within the Society in each governorate which comprises of 15 prominent and influential women with a view to supervising and following up on the awareness campaign for women in targeted areas.
She mentioned that later on training courses will be held for a number of women in those governorates so that they may assume leadership positions and will implement field awareness-raising campaigns amongst women in accordance with aims and plans drawn up for this project.
The President of the Modern Youth Society, at the conclusion of her statement, called on all the civic and official quarters to cooperate with the Society to make those campaign a success, which would achieve a positive outcome insofar as its aims, thus serving the aspects of development in the country.
